The EV Life of Brian
The journey to electric with Brian and his Kia EV9
About the video
Brain’s journey to electric was a long and windy road.
A mechanic by trade, he spent time in his younger days working with his grandpa in the garage, tinkering with a makeshift ‘car’ built from spare aircraft parts.
We follow him through a cross-country trip where his family, and two others, participated in a week long Today Show segment to see who’d save the most money amongst three types of cars, a compact hybrid, a mid-size sedan, and a luxury SUV.
Brian also shares how his first EV was “stolen” from him, after which we learn of his experience with a Hyundai Ioniq 5–only to reveal a issue with the Ioniq 5 that forced Brian to start searching for a replacement.
That’s brings us to his current ride, a Kia EV9.
We get the download on his favorite features, and how it is to tow his unique choice of travel trailer to many miles of beaches along the California coast from Ventura to San Diego.
About the Shoot
This video was shot with what will be our core production package for our corporate video production business, Trivessa.
With the new Canon gear, I am finally able to achieve the look and style I’ve been wanting for so long, but was never going to achieve with an iPhone.
This video was our first full production with the new kit and I’m quite pleased with the result.
I used this shoot as a lab experiment. With two cameras, I was able to capture and compare footage shot in two different file formats, encoding formats, and bitrates. The only thing to two cameras had in common was 24fps. Because of this, you may notice a slight variation in color between the two cameras.
You’ll might also notice a lav mic pop in and out of scenes. This is me forgetting to mic up Brian before the first take. The benefit of the mistake is discovering that the lav wasn’t even necessary. This is because the new Sennheiser shotgun mic positioned overhead and just out of the shot, delivered the cleanest audio I’ve ever heard from a mic. Especially considering how breezy it was that day!
I hope you enjoy the new look. Let me know in the comments here or on YouTube your thoughts.
